New to the Calabazas Festival this year!
Ranch History Tours and Trail Walks
Each only 20-30 minute duration
10:30am: ECOTONE PLANT WALK (20 minutes) with Chuck LeFevre. MEET AT THE INFORMATION BOOTH. Identify trees, bushes, shrubs and wildflowers along the trail below the Kannally Ranch House.
11:00am: KANNALLY RANCH HOUSE TOUR (30 minutes) with Mary Bast. MEET AT THE RANCH HOUSE UPPER PATIO. Explore the four level Mediterranean style home of the Kannally family. Built in 1929-1933, the ranch house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
12:00pm: CORRAL HISTORY TOUR (20 minutes) with Sid Smith and Ranger Jennifer Rinio. Imagine the KAN cattle operation of the past. Take a tour past the windmill, homestead house, loading shoots, cattle scale and more as these features are interpreted. Read Spanish graffiti from 1920 and see a pump-house demo. MEET AT THE CORRALS.
12:30pm: THE NOSE KNOWS (30 minutes): Use the five senses to explore the environment on an interactive trail program with Joanne & Andy Hogan. They will show a few of the environmental education activities of the Oracle Adventure Program offered to visiting school groups who come to learn about the wildlife of Oracle State Park. MEET AT THE CORRALS. Fun for kids of all ages.
1:00pm: PLANT WALK (30 minutes) with herbalist and author, Charlie Kane. MEET AT THE INFORMATION BOOTH. Identify edible and medicinal plants found along the trail to the ranch house.
1:30pm: KANNALLY RANCH HOUSE TOUR (30 minutes) with Mary Bast. MEET AT THE RANCH HOUSE UPPER PATIO. Explore the four level Mediterranean style home of the Kannally family. Built in 1929-1933, the ranch house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
2:30pm: SCAVENGER HUNT (30 minutes): Learn more about oak-grassland inhabitants on an interactive trail program with Phil McNamee. He will show a few of the environmental education activities of the Oracle Odyssey Program offered to visiting school groups who come to learn about the wildlife of Oracle State Park. MEET AT THE CORRALS. Fun for kids of all ages.
3:30pm: PATIO GARDEN TOUR (20 minutes) with Chuck LeFevre. MEET AT THE KANNALLY RANCH HOUSE. Explore the four levels of patio gardens and learn more about the plant communities used in landscaping.
